The SME Fund provides small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) based in the European Union (EU) with financial support to protect their intellectual property rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Each applicant can receive up to <strong>EUR 7,320 <\/strong> from this fund to finance designs, trade marks, patents and plant variety protection. In 2026, a total of EUR 18 million is available for these purposes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">The fund was established on <strong>2 February 2026<\/strong> and will run until <strong>4 December 2026<\/strong>, or until the allocated funding has been fully exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide has-text-align-left\"><strong><u>What is funded?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The fund is a reimbursement programme. Grants are awarded in the form of vouchers that can be used for a wide range of intellectual property-related activities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trademark and design applications (max. <strong>EUR 700<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Filing of patents (max. <strong>EUR 3,500<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Pre-diagnosis of intellectual property rights (IP Scan) (max. <strong>EUR 1,620<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\">Application for Community plant variety protection (max. <strong>EUR 1,500<\/strong>)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong><u>Who is eligible for funding?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All SMEs based in the EU can apply for funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In general, any company with fewer than 250 employees and an annual turnover of up to \u20ac50 million is considered an SME. <strong>weniger als<\/strong> <strong>250 Besch\u00e4ftigten<\/strong> und einem Umsatz von bis zu <strong>50 Millionen \u20ac<\/strong> <strong>im Jahr<\/strong> als ein KMU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Self-employed persons are also entitled to apply to the SME Fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong><u>Where to apply?<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The application for funding can be submitted online on the website of the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"841\" height=\"358\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-25-120004.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3046\" style=\"width:185px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-25-120004.png 841w, https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-25-120004-300x128.png 300w, https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-25-120004-768x327.png 768w, https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/Screenshot-2024-01-25-120004-18x8.png 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 841px) 100vw, 841px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.euipo.europa.eu\/en\/sme-corner\/sme-fund\/2026\">https:\/\/www.euipo.europa.eu\/en\/sme-corner\/sme-fund\/2026<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Only a few documents are required for the application:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a VAT certificate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a bank statement <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a signed 'declaration on honour' if the application is submitted by an external representative<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading alignwide\"><strong><u>Concluding remarks<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The EU funding programme is an easily accessible way to help you or your company protect intellectual property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Since <strong>funds are limited<\/strong> (in 2025, the fund was already exhausted by mid-year), we recommend <strong>submitting an application early<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of course, if you need any assistance, we are always available to help.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p class=\"translation-block\">On the initiative of the European Commission, the SME Fund \u201cIdeas Powered for Business\u201d was established.
