Design protection is initially granted for five years and can then be extended step by step up to a maximum of 25 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>Filing Fee for a Design<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The official filing fee is currently EUR 60 for electronic filing and EUR 70 for paper filing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><strong>Maintenance fees up to the maximum term<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The following fees are charged by the DPMA for further maintenance:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>EUR 90<\/strong> for the 6th to 10th year of protection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>EUR 120<\/strong> for the 11th to 15th year of protection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>EUR 150<\/strong> for the 16th to 20th year of protection<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li class=\"translation-block\"><strong>EUR 180<\/strong> for the 21st to 25th year of protection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph translation-block\">Anyone filing electronically and maintaining the design for the full term of 25 years will therefore incur a total of <strong>EUR 600<\/strong> in official fees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1016\" height=\"507\" src=\"https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/output-4.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3272\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/output-4.png 1016w, https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/output-4-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/output-4-768x383.png 768w, https:\/\/www.wmw-patent.de\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/output-4-18x9.png 18w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1016px) 100vw, 1016px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Special Feature: Multiple Application<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several designs can be filed together in a multiple application. The cost advantage mainly lies in the filing itself, since the minimum fee for electronic filing already covers up to ten designs.
